FROM THE DRESKINS

As we enter our 2nd decade here at The Jonah Maccabee Foundation and kick off our December campaign, we’re excited to share with you one small but profound change.

Throughout our first ten years, the words “Helping young people build whole, healthy lives” have comprised the brand tagline on all of our materials. It helped to convey our family’s passion for how we wanted to pay tribute to the beautiful gift of Jonah’s life.

Today we enter a new era as those words become “Turning love into action.”

Turning love into action.

When we lost Jonah, we didn’t know how to live life in a world so suddenly and terribly transformed. But when we thought about Jonah and that astounding goodness of his which so many of his friends told us about, it became clear that one of the ways we would carry Jonah’s memory forward would be by performing acts of goodness we imagine he might himself have done.

Turning love into action.

Our friend, David Billotti, made the suggested word change. We immediately knew it was perfect. First, it was how Jonah seemed to have lived his life. And second, it perfectly describes how we have chosen to honor our love for him. Thank you, David.

As we enter our second decade, we’re extremely grateful for your friendship. Simply put, there would be no foundation without you. Your words of encouragement, along with your incredibly kind donations, have empowered us to do this work. It is so very comforting and affirming for us to think of Jonah as we provide musical instruments to an underfunded school, assist families at America’s southern border as they struggle to stay together and to work toward legal entry into our country, and train young people to use their Jewish values to work to better our world. The evidence is in — YOU have turned our love into action. We are endlessly grateful for that.

Throughout this month of December, we’ll be telling you of the many ways that we have turned, and will turn, our love for Jonah into “Jonah-Inspired” acts of love and caring for others. We hope you’ll want to read each and every note. And then, we hope you’ll do what you always do: provide us with the tools to achieve Jonah’s legacy. Anytime this month, please stop by jonahmac.org/donate and give as generously as you can.

We continue to miss Jonah and to feel grateful: a) that we had him in our lives; and, b) that he’s inspired us to do good stuff in his name. We’re incredibly honored that you’ve joined us in our work and thank you in advance for donating to our “Jonah-Inspired” campaign.

Very sincerely,
Ellen, Billy, Katie, Mark and Aiden
