While some knew him as Jonah and others as Mac, we all loved and respected him. And we miss him dearly.

680 Arrested in MS … JMF Awards 6 More Grants to Help Immigrant Kids

With 680 undocumented workers arrested in a record-setting immigration sweep on the first day of school in Mississippi, The Jonah Maccabee Foundation felt the need to do something.

United We Dream is the largest immigrant youth-led community in the country. They create welcoming spaces for young people – regardless of immigration status – to support, engage, and empower them to make their voices heard and win!

In partnership with United We Dream, The Jonah Maccabee Foundation is honored to continue our commitment to assisting kids and their families who are in this administration’s line of fire by directing grants to the following six organizations:

  • Southeast Immigrant Rights Network, whose mission is to lift up the voice and leadership of immigrant communities of the Southeast at the regional and national levels, promoting collaboration and exchange, as well as political education and collective action to build just and inclusive communities
  • El Pueblo, which provides direct services designed to meet immediate needs of the Mississippi Gulf Coast’s immigrant population
  • Mississippi Immigrants Rights Alliance, which advocates, educates and organizes immigrant and allied communities to spread awareness of immigrant issues in housing, education, healthcare and the workplace
  • ACLU of Mississippi, taking up the good fight to oppose the violation of immigrant rights and help those most affected to effectively advocate for themselves
  • Mississippi Center for Justice, providing swift and powerful responses to attacks on immigrant communities, coordinating rapid response legal teams to help locate detained loved ones, provide immigration legal assistance to those facing removal, and ensure care for children whose parents or guardians have been imprisoned
  • MacArthur Center for Justice University of Mississippi, a knight-like roundtable of tireless, talented attorneys who are dispatched to address social injustice as counsel of last resort for those most in need

The Jonah Maccabee Foundation feels privileged to be able to support this most worthy work. Learn more by visiting these organizations’ website or home on Facebook.

Thank YOU for making our support possible.
